lingering shadows
It might kill you to admit it, but it hurts a little - sometimes, when you see that idiotic trio - they’re laughing, smiling, making a fool out of themselves - they’re carefree.
They remind you a little of your past.
It hurts because Gintoki is right smack in the middle between them - an old friend, his comrade - he is the only one left, and he has put the past behind - he’s moving on.
It’s not like he doesn’t care. You know he’ll pull, drag, tow you along - but you’d like to cling on a little longer. (Of times when Takasugi, Gintoki, and the others were fighting along with you)
For now, you’ll observe the three.
Gintoki has become weaker - his strikes are less forceful, footsteps slow - but they’re his strength, his children, even if they are always requesting for sushi, hot pots and piggyback rides, but they’re all Gintoki has now, so he’ll hold on tight, real tight this time.
You know this much.
You still hide in the shadows, lingering to the past and you wonder why it couldn’t be like this in the past.
