The primary difference between the director's cut and the original theatrical release of Dark City is that the latter had a prologue that Alex Proyas felt gave too much away too quickly. The director's cut version introduces elements of the "secret" gradually instead of up-front, so that it isn't leading up to a "big reveal" like the theatrical version did. As far as more character, I agree with you for the most part, although there are several scenes with William Hurt's character that are either new or are extended from the theatrical version. Overall, the differences are minor, but they make a (very slightly) more sophisticated version of the film.

Once Upon a Time in the West is the shiznit. One of Jason Robards' best performances ever; the next time you watch the finale, it will come across completely differently. And the absolute best use of Henry Fonda in a movie ever (and that's saying quite a lot).
