Friday evening M and I went wassailing at Scotswood Gardens, a community project in Newcastle. I was interested to learn a little, my understanding being that one of the three wassailing customs involves encouraging apple trees to produce a good harvest by watering the "tree of trees" with cider, hanging cakes in its branches, walking thrice ( Read more... )

Re banishing... I'm not sure. I'm very new to this...They did give us a really helpful information sheet, which I shall hunt out. I gather they have quite a "holistic" attitude to nature/seasons etc..., so there's probably loads on all year. I'm sure they have a mailing list, will dig out the website for you.

yeah, it was, and made difference from singing wassails, which we also do lots of! The only irritating thing was the media presence, which in the latter part of the evening involved us "staging" things for them to get the best shots etc... so we spent much time wassailing the strwberries...
