lol this was great (I so missed the ep recaps for pkj)
I was completely shocked at Howie's apartment - shithole apartment complex, and his apartment looks like a Houdini exhibit in a museum, lol Even the Neuro Hunters' head quarters doesn't look that different from the outside (in this episode, anyway. The first ep it looked like a storefront for a bookstore was supposed to be the entrance to the HQ)
I was really glad Riley helped Howie escape (and, to a lesser degree, that Andre was so shocked by the shackles and restraints in the transport truck), because I keep seeing parallels with PKJ and X Men (and, by extension, the symbolism in X Men for gay rights going all the way back to the Holocaust)...and yeah. I just know there's going to be a neuro on PKJ who's empathic or can communicate with animals/shapeshift into animals (I'm also a big fan of Tamora Pierce's books, :-P) or something and...yeah. I'm a bit obsessed...
Thanks (yeah, I got derailed because of SG-1 ending, and then missed a week or two).
Howie's apartment was rather well-stocked in the magician's museum, yes. I can't decide if some of that was left over from his father or not (oh, Howie, btw? Your father did leave you more than the wand. Half your special powers came from his DNA).
The one difficulty PKJ has is that the X-Men really HAS done that mutants rights thing to DEATH (even ignoring fricking Civl War). So there's a lot of text out there that's already SAID the whole "hated and feared for being different" thing. PKJ is doing a really good job not being heavy-handed about it, though.
This episode left me surprised, and I liked it. Anything involving Riley is good enough for me, because I love the guy, and he did a stellar job. His stubborn need to prove that he isn't going nuts was great, because that is SO Riley. Though I was upset that nobody believed him in the beginning, since dealing with neuros they've been faced with weirder stuff and should've at least done an investigation.
I pretty much agree with everything you commented on, especially about the previews being misleading about the actual episode. Otherwise, PKJ is getting better with each episode.
Yeah, no one believing him was... a bit off, but I figure there's only so many Neuros they can track and while Andre considered that Riley's might be real, he didn't think that Howie was all that dangerous.
Otherwise, the rest of them just look like idiots.
I so loved the ep, because finally - finally - it's not just a Neuro, it's no it, it's a human being with extraordinary powers but as well feelings and rights. I think it was very important to show that aspect, because although Neuros can be very dangerous I sometimes got the impression it was more of a witch-hunt. Oh, and did I mention I just love the friendship aspect? Jane and Riley just fooling around and all their deals and stuff..
*nods* And... gods, the one with the guy who could steal memories also touched on this. And, dare I say it, made Andre think twice about it all. You're right about the witch-hunt aspect, too. Which, sometimes it seems justified, because the neuros are causing death and destruction--or frakking with their heads, a la the shapeshifter that was looking for Nico.
The team friendship stuff is one of the things I'm loving about the series. A lot of shows claim "omgbestfriends!" and we rarely see it in action.
Yeah :D But I found it very important to know about the human aspect of Neuros. I also found it quite cruel whenever they prefered killing over chipping XD
