Update on this year's Europe trip

Feb 23, 2007 12:59

  • My flights and Eurostar ticket are now booked.
  • I'm still trying to book a bus ticket for a return trip to Edinburgh. A friend suggested Megabus (very cheap) but their online booking won't work with my Canadian Visa card. I guess the next thing to try is the Nat'l Express site (not as cheap).
  • The hotel in London is booked for two nights. Looks very ( Read more... )

I was hoping you'd be willing to play tour guide! :)

We're not totally sure about the hostel, but this place looked nice: http://www.syha.org.uk/SYHA/Web/Site/Hostels/EdinburghCentral.asp

Their private rooms aren't that much more than two dorm beds, so we'd probably go with that. Any other suggestions?

Can't wait to "join you" on this trip also, Paige.

I've always wanted to see Great Britain. It's where my roots are - many many many ... generations ago.

OMG, I am so going to be following this thread of yours now! You're going a bunch of places I've already been and very much want to visit again! And I've always wanted to rent a flat in Paris--that resources list you put up is going straight into my Memories page! EEE! I'm all excited and I'm not even the one going!

See if you can't take one of those graveyard tours in Edinburgh, the ones where they tell you there are poltergeists and take you out and make you stand in a tomb at midnight and such--I took one when I was there and it was an absolute hoot. :)

Squeeeee I love seeing it all in print. Ducks in a row, ducks in a row, getting our ducks in a row.

Also the Ghosts & Ghouls tour looks cool, I am totally into things like that.

There is so much I want to see too... it is definitely going to be a packed week and things will probably have to fall by the wayside but we are young and can go back ;)

Okay, I'm sorry to spam your comments, but your brave acts of escaping to Europe have inspired a bit of a kerfluffle in my heart--I've skimmed some of your bloggage and am really impressed by the trips you've taken and how much they resemble trips I'D like to be taking. ;) I really wanted to do the Paris escape thing over Christmas but it didn't end up working out, and I'm always thinking I should challenge myself to greater and greater travel accomplishments abroad.

So I was wondering: Do you think you could possibly write a post-cum-tutorial about how you go about planning your trips? The two times I've been to Yurp (g), I went with others, but I'm getting more and more into the idea of taking off on my own--however, the idea of planning it all puts in me into a mild panic attack. So I have questions:
  • What are the things you've learned about the cheapest, best ways to get to the most places during the course of the trip?
  • What do you find are the best ways to structure (and occasionally unstructure) your time, find other people to ( ... )

No worries - I'm not a person who gets a lot of comments, so this is kind of fun. ;) I'll write up a proper post, but on the structure question ( ... )

Wow, thanks for the quick response! :D

I am printing out your new post now, and plan to read it carefully as soon as I actually get some work done today (daydreams of traveling have seriously hijacked my brain power. :P). I'll undoubtedly be writing back again afterward. ;)
