Mariposa Park
Yesterday D. and I attended the dedication of our brand-new neighborhood park, on Mariposa Ave., and I took these pics while we were there.
Welcome to Mariposa Park.
Mariposa, of course, is the Spanish word for butterfly, and the park is jam-packed with butterfly motifs.
(There is also a water feature shaped like a butterfly.)
The kids' play area has egg and larva play structures.
Happy larva is happy.
There is edumacational signage telling about the history of the neighborhood, equating the growth of the area with the stages of butterfly metamorphosis.
Even the kids' play structure has edumacational signs on it.
There is no escape. We will not be able to avoid knowing everything there is to know about butterflies before we leave the park.
One corner of the park is a butterfly garden, planted with their favorite flowers.
Another corner of the park is planted with roses.
People are having fun.
On our way out we pause to watch a butterfly balloon bob in the breeze.
