Anakin/Padme's friendship in The Phantom Menace

Something I don't often hear discussed is Anakin/Padme's friendship in The Phantom Menace. We know they fell in love in The Attack of the Clone Wars, but I think their friendship, however short, from TPM is forgotten. I think George Lucas failed to portray Anakin's and Padmé strong bond/relationship in TPM and i came up it was simple and dull;
Yes, Padmé felt intrigued and thankful for what Anakin did for her and her planet, yet as Anakin said in AOTC , she forgot about him...still she kept Anakin's gift(hmm)
As for Anakin, I don't think she ever consider Padmé just a friend, she obviously had a crush for her,but since he was a kid, he didn't knew how to act or understood his feelings.So...we can say, friendship was born?
I asume as Anakin grows, his feelings for her weren't of friendship only :)

It's unfortunate that Padme didn't really remember Anakin too well...but at least she kept the Jedi snippet. That at least is something. And it's true that Anakin had a crush on Padme, I didn't consider that.
