Yes, I've read it, and enjoyed it. Actually, you'll find a lot of things familiar if you read Jerome K. Jerome; Connie Willis clearly liked the book, and she makes numerous references. (Heinlein liked the book too, incidentally - Kip's father is reading it all the time in Have Spacesuit, Will Travel, which might be where my parents heard of it.)
I also read Bellwether, which was quite enjoyable and interesting.
Watership Down - rock on. *fistbump* Consistently and forever my favorite book, hands down. I've read it... many times, enough times that I have most of it more or less memorized. :)

your list is good (and I know that I need to read ISLANDS IN THE NET) --- some other suggestions to consider: ALICE IN WONDERLAND ... TRUE NAMES ... MIDDLEMARCH ... TRISTRAM SHANDY ... LORD OF THE RINGS ...

And that's a good list! (And I know that I need to read Tristram Shandy! ... and Middlemarch! ... and Lord of the Rings, again!)
It's actually a little astonishing that I was able to come up with a decent list, actually - I only spent a few minutes making up my lists of candidates.
Man, I gotta read Watership Down again. And yes, that is the best six-word summation I've heard. (Mine is "A sweeping, breathtaking epic! About bunnies!")
*grin* Hey, some of my favorite books are just awful, so I understand perfectly.
