Ashley kicked out bouncing back in a hand spring. She had been told to take it easy, but after the last two weeks in bed, and god knows how long before that she wasn’t in the mood for it.
Didn’t help that everyone was walking on eggshells around her, as if she was cursed, rolling back to her feet she flicked her knives from the wrist guard at her target, turning and…
He was standing in the doorway of the gym. The knife stayed in her hand, even though her eyes showed anger. It wasn’t directed at him.
“Ash…”
“Stay back, I don’t think we need a repeat because I’m so weak.”
He looked down, it had been his fault she had tried to fix him, and his fault she had gotten hurt. “Ash, you’re not weak.” He did stay back though. “Ashie, I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“I know you didn’t. I just…” She turned away from him, her head down, as she touched her side lightly. “Grandfather was right, I’m a failure.” She bit her lip.
Martini knew that he shouldn’t, but he couldn’t let her continue like this. He moved closer to her, pulling her into a hug, careful not to touch her skin. “Ashie, we both made mistakes okay? Don’t beat yourself over it. It won’t happen again. I’m leaving.”
She stiffened at the touch a moment and bit her lip, turning into him she clung to him tightly. “Iie… Martini, please don’t leave.”
Alex had been passing and scowled seeing them together. “Ashley, get away from him.”
Ash heard the younger Summer’s brother and did actually step away from him looking at the boy. “Alex, it’s okay, he wasn’t going to hurt me again.” She yelped as he grabbed her wrist pulling her behind him. “Alex, really…”
Martini flinched at the anger that was directed at him this time. “Fine, I’ll go.”
Before she could stop them the time manipulator had walked out of the room. In retaliation Ashley turned Alex around decking him.
“Ow… come on…”
“No, I had it under control, it was my fault he went nuts the first time and all of you keep treating him like it’s his fault.” She shoved him away so she could go after him. “Martini, chotto matte!”
