[It starts innocently enough-- of course, this being Euphie, of course it starts innocently-- with Ephie wanting a sleepover. She's missed Lelouch, it's clear, and, to be honest, he's missed her, too, so it isn't too difficult to persuade him to agreeing.]

[Things are, of course, supposed to be just like old times, but, well, they're both very different now. Some things, of course, are different. Others, stayed the same. But a few things haven't quite taken either path but simply... changed, matured, so to speak, over the y]ears, even if, at its core, its seeds remain in their time spent together in their youth.]

[Euphemia is innocent, but not stupid. There's something there- something she cares to simply push aside (he's Lelouch, he's Lelouch vi Britannia, he's Lelouch Lamperouge.) and yet for the most part, it actually works. Normally avoidance isn't a tactic she would approve of, but- well. With those kinds of thoughts, avoidance works rather well.

Which leads them to this point, where she's tugging at Lelouch's hand cheerfully, the frowning and silent spells starting to ease after the events of January; time does start to heal all things]

It's been ages since we've done this.

[except not really, since one of the last Lelouc-- well. No, she wasn't going to think about that.

Fresh starts, after all]

[He's aware of that flicker of doubt, of equivocation in her eyes as she speaks, aware of what it means she's thinking, and again he's reminded of all he doesn't know, all he doesn't remember, and again his hate for Atia begins to boil up, but he pushes it down. Not now. There will be time for that later-- plenty of time. But that would be on his time, not on Euphie's. After all she's suffered, after all she's been forced to do, all because of him, he owes her this much, a happy, carefree night not with the brooding, moody leader of the resistance, but with her childhood friend, her brother. Reminding himself of that, and seeing her own smile, genuine, despite that flash in her eyes, he smiles back, every bit as genuinely.]

It has. Are you sure Cornelia is alright with this?

Don't worry.

[stretching up to grab her robe off the back of her door-- it is a bit chilly and she's getting goosebumps-- and she sweeps it on over her pajamas with a soft laugh]

I'll protect you should she get too cross with you invading our household like this.

[she lifts her hand to cup his cheek and grin at him, and then laughs, softly.]

No, she's out tonight. Don't worry.

[He... seems a little nervous, and fidgets a little, pushing up his glasses. His smile isn't quite as calm and collected as it usually is... but it's genuine, at least.]

I, ah...

Mm. I heard your trial is tomorrow. Given the circumstances under which we last parted, I understand if you don't want to talk, but I... I wanted to apologize for my rash behavior. Now more than ever, you needed your friends to stand beside you, regardless of your choices and feelings, and... I failed you. I'm sorry. I let my own feelings blind me to what was important. What is important.

I... I'm not sure if you still want to be friends, though I do, but whatever your feelings on the matter, I...

I wanted to wish you good luck with the trial tomorrow.

I... I miss you. Take care.

[Truth be told, she doesn't really expect to get this, or any sort of message from him, but when she does, she just...stares at it for a short while.

There's nothing she can say for the longest time, instead she just bundles up under her covers, staring wordlessly at her device, exhausted but unable to sleep.

It's late when she does respond, half-hoping, half-not sure if he'll actually answer.]

Ishida?

[For a few minutes, no response, then, Ishida, lit only by the moon and the stars, appears on the screen, apparently outside on a rooftop or out in some open space, looking nervous, anxious, yet perhaps a little hopeful from what the shadows don't conceal of his face.]

I'm here, Euphie.

[she tries for teasing, but it's weak]

Lurking?
