[Translation] 5/31 Recomen (Shota, Yoko, Hina) Part 1

Jun 03, 2007 14:00

The May 31, 2007 episode of Recomen featured the upcoming album, "Zukkoke Daidassou." Yoko knew Shota had just got out work (past midnight) so he asked the manager and was able to catch him toward the end of the show. Yoko asked Shota all about his solo song, "Watashi Kagami." Here is the word-for-word translation (!!) to that part of the show! Enjoy!

(since it's going to be long, I'll divide it into a few parts)

May 31, 2007 Recomen Part 1

Hina: Okay, it looks like we have Yasu-kun on the phone.
Yoko: Hello?
Shota: Uh, uh, hellohellohello? Yesyesyes?
Yoko: Yasu?
Shota: Yes, this is Yasuda. Yes.
Yoko: Are you talking on the cell right now?
Shota: Umm… yeah, I am on the cell.
Yoko: You have no idea what we’re doing on the radio right now, do you?
Shota: Umm, right now, our manager turned the radio on.
Hina: Yeah?
Yoko: Oh you have it on? Have you been listening?
Shota: Um, no, we just turned it on now so I don’t know anything…
Hina: Ahh, I see.
Yoko: I was wondering if you can come over to our radio and promote the album with us.
Shota: Oh!
Yoko: I was telling that to our manager.
Shota: You could have called me over.
Yoko: What?
Shota: You could have called me, but… I was working up until now.
Hina: Yeah, we heard you were working, so…
Shota: …You are correct.
Hina: Yeah?
Yoko: Oh gorilla, you just shut up!
Shota: %&$#*@ (unidentifiable because of the bad reception on the phone)
Hina: Hahaha
Yoko: See, we can’t even tell what you’re saying because the reception of the phone was bad! Anyway, earlier…
Shota: Yeah?
Yoko: I asked all sorts of things for Hina’s solo song as a promotion.
Shota: Uh huh? (still confused as to what’s going on)
Hina: You know how we wrote our own lyrics this time?
Shota: Ahh, yes we did.
Yoko: Yeah so we’re getting good responses already right now (saying that his idea of asking all sorts of things regarding the solo songs was fabulous and he would like to go on with it, haha)
Shota: Yeah?
Yoko: And I wanted to do it with you, too.
Shota: …What do you mean?
Yoko: I’m going to ask you a few questions so answer me, okay?
Shota: …Okay? (still not sure)
Yoko: Just think of me as the interviewer, okay?
Shota: Hahaha, okay I understand.
Yoko: Alright, the beginning part…
Shota: Yes.
Yoko: “Will my words of love (=”Ai kotoba”) reach you? I imagine it... and then I smile in embarrassment” What did you mean by this?
Shota: Haha! (Realizing he’s about to be asked about the entire song) Umm well…
Yoko: Yeah.
Hina: Yeah.
Shota: Umm, to “you”… there was this girl…
Yoko: What do you mean by “Ai kotoba,” first of all (Note: “Ai kotoba 合言葉” means “secret password” or “magic word.” But, the poet that Shota is, he used the “Ai” as in “love 愛” to make it “Ai kotoba 愛言葉” meaning “words of love.”)
Shota: Umm…
Yoko: Is it like “MELLA!”? (Probably some magic word thing in an anime or something, haha I don’t know)
Shota: Hahaha! Noooo!
Yoko: I know it’s not!! Hahaha.
Hina: Just answer it! You! Just answer!
Yoko: Yeah, just answer it! You don’t have to tsukkomi about it!
Shota: Well the “Ai kotoba” is the word “I love you.”
Yoko: Oh! This is “I love you!” (and thus starts Yoko’s sheer amazements in Shota’s song)
Shota: Yes. Between the two, “I love you” is the “Ai kotoba” (magic word & words of love).
Yoko: Ohhh so I see, it’s like a sign right?
Shota: Yep yep yep.
Yoko: Like between the two, right?
Hina: Ohhh.
Shota: Yeah, that’s what I wanted it to mean.
Yoko: Yeah.
Hina: Ohhh.
Shota: And then, um… without saying anything out loud, she is wondering if her feeling reaches him just by thinking about it in her head.
Yoko: Yeah.
Hina: Yeah.
Shota: And she’s laughing in embarrassment. That’s the picture (I had in mind).
Hina: Ahh… well if you just hear that part, you’re just a pervert!
Shota: Haha why!!! Don’t treat my picture as a pervert!!
Hina: Okay okay sorry.
Yoko: You know, while you’re singing this song at the concert, I usually stand-by back stage with Ohkura.
Hina: Uh huh.
Shota: Yeah?
Yoko: We always notice this phrase in your lyric…
Hina: Where is it?
Shota: Yes?
Yoko: You know where you have a part that goes something like “a fake smile that I am forcing?”
Shota: Ahh, yes there is.
Hina: Yeah.
Yoko: We were wondering if that fake smile was forced toward us (the K8 members).
Shota: Hahahahaha!!
Hina: Ahh, I see. Like be caring to the others, right?
Yoko: You (Yasu) always are caring toward us.
Hina: Ahh, yes yes.
Shota: Umm, Yokoyama-san?
Yoko: Yes?
Shota: You’re reading into it too much!
Yoko: I was talking with Ohkura saying “We should reconsider…” that we shouldn’t make you be so caring toward us.
Hina: Reconsider how to treat him (Yasu), right?
Yoko: Yeah.
Hina: What did you mean by that part (of the lyric), Yasu-kun?
Shota: Um, I’m not usually forcing a fake smile!
Yoko: But what did you mean by this lyric? Is it like forcing a fake smile to your girlfriend kind of thing?
Shota: Um, well, I wrote this from a female perspective.
Yoko: Yeah.
Hina: Yeah.
Shota: And that girl wants to see her darling so bad, and…
Hina: (suppressing laughter in the background)
Shota: The reality is that she can’t see him, but she kinda forces a smile saying “Don’t worry, I’m not lonely,” and the other smile is the true, honest smile that comes out when she does get to see him. Those are the two kinds of smiles I wrote here.
Hina: Yeah, yeah…
Yoko: So Yasu, you call your boyfriend “darling,” huh?
Shota: HAHAHAHA
Hina: Yeah, I was caught on that, too.
Yoko: You call him “Darling ♪”?
Shota: Haha, umm… well… darling? Well uh, umm… well I don’t have a boyfriend so I don’t really know… (riiiight)
