Dear Foxnews,

You fail at many things, but normally things military isn't one of them. This time it is. A ballistic missile submarine is not a "defense" submarine. The only thing you can use it for is reducing someone's country to ashes. This seems to me an awful lot like an "attack"* from my arm chair general perspective

I guess they must think deterrence is defensive -- which it kind of is, but that rather obviates the distinction between offensive missiles and defensive missiles (SAMs, in other words).

And by that definition, we didn't attack Iraq, we just deterred it.

I mean, I see how you can stretch the definition of defense to encompass nuclear weapons, but the emphasis is on the word stretch. I'm a pretty big military geek (I actually own a copy of Harpoon III and know how to use it). No one calls it a defense submarine in real life. My impression from reading the article is that the author heard that the other submarine class is attack subs, and therefore assumed that the other class must be defense subs. DidNotDoTheResearch.
