Wilson shuffled through the pathology reports to see how many were left. It was taking him twice as long as usual to get through his paperwork, thanks in part to House. His mind kept going back to the 'nothing' that happened or the thing that had almost happened or the thing that House had thought about happening.... Damn House and his secrets.
Although Wilson needed to focus on his work, he was happy for an interruption. A distraction might help right about now. "Come in." Wilson looked up and, seeing Cade, waved him into the office. "Morning, Cade. What's up?"
"Coffee is what's up. Or more to the point, on the agenda," Cade said, planting Wilson's coffee in front of him on his desk and raising his to blow on it.
"How goes it?" Cade asked, leaving that open for how Wilson wanted to take it - as a question about work or one of a more personal nature.
Wilson stared at the coffee cup for a long moment, surprise evident on his face. He wasn't used to having things brought to him unasked. House certainly never brought him anything, except trouble. And nurses usually avoided doing anything that might make them look like glorified errand boys and girls.
"Er...thanks," he said. He took a cautious sip from the cup then set it aside to cool a little more. He was tempted to ask Cade why he'd brought the coffee, but Wilson usually didn't go looking for ulterior motives. He believed the best in people. Tried to, anyway.
"It goes...slowly," Wilson said with a rueful smile. "For some reason surgical pathology just isn't holding my attention today."
He knew why, of course, but he could hardly tell Cade that he was afraid House was cheating on him. He couldn't say anything at all about House and his sexual orientation confusion. House would have a stroke if he did, or kill Wilson. Neither was a desirable outcome.
"When is paperwork ever interesting?" Cade asked, smiling easily. He was glad Wilson hadn't asked about the coffee, or why he was there for that matter, though the confusion had been evident on his face.
"So, tell me, what music are you into? I'd like to find a place with some good live music. I feel like all I'm doing lately is working...well, except for the random drink with Dr House the other night." Cade's tone was still casual but he was curious to see how Wilson would take that, for many reasons.
