You've messed with my brain again. I actually watched CotBP once since I first read this (yes, I am very behind on my commenting) and I kept picking myself up on thinking of Jack as 'she' (Monkey Jack, obviously. New Jack is almost definatly A Boy.). I must be very sexist, because suddenly she seemed a lot less scuzzy (to borrow a phrase) and unpleasent than before. Or maybe because Jack Who Is A Female Monkey Though Only Hector Knows has a POV, whereas Jack About Whom Little Else is Known doesn't. (I hope my Significant Capitals are conveying what I intend.)
“Awright! On me way! No call to resort to explosives.”
Whee! I'm suprised Jack doesn't seem to malapropise more often, conciously or otherwise. Perhaps folks just can't think of them.
Daddy, in his wisdom, has seen that she misses climbing and whooping with a troop of creatures like herself, and he has provided New Jack to keep her company.Hehe. It all makes sense now
( ... )
Secretly female Jack has made herself canon as far as I'm concerned. I can't write her any other way (which can be a problem in stories where she only rates a passing mention and there's no time to explain). I nearly jumped out of my cinema seat when Barbossa started cooing and feeding her nuts - I always thought he was a softie for his monkey, (and got it into a pre-AWE story to prove it) but hadn't expected canon confirmation.
I'm so glad you picked up on the 'Sparrington-gone-wrong'. I can't seem to write sparrington since AWE and I miss it. So my Jack misses his commodore. Patisserie was an attempt to de-anachronise Jack Davenport's comment about looking like an ice cream.
Capuchins have pretty long tails, but then again they're pretty small monkeys. Hmmm. Maybe not ALL the way round. But she'd do her best.
Patisserie was an attempt to de-anachronise Jack Davenport's comment about looking like an ice cream. Hehe. Well, ice-cream was occasionally available in 18th-century England, but JackDav is probably thinking of Mr Whippy, which seems unlikely.
AH! Vianetta! THAT was what the wigs put me in mind of...
I'm sure First Jack would get her tail round to give New Jack a good idea of her intentions, I suppose.
It seems the simplest view to take in Nuts Out is to assume Jack has slept with everyone he has ever met until evidence presents itself to the contrary. (“Do not! Nowhere near half,” ... yeah, yeah.)
Actually, when I first started reading, I thought it was a scene between the Multiple Jacks. After all, having a 'feminine side' is accepted pop-psychology, and Jack being, well, Jack, I can't believe there isn't a Jaqulina hovering just out of sight...
