I'm so happy to see more of this series! It has so much potential, and its achy, nuanced backstory is just the kind of heartbreaker I love to wallow in.

And Will's POV is nicely, rightly done. Straightforward and honest, but with an added sense of maturity (as evidenced by pragmatic lines like Luckily, blushing doesn’t really work without a heartbeat) that I think only makes sense after all that's happened over the course of the three movies, not to mention, over the course of this story arc.

A man who can go to sea with Jack Sparrow and still talk of coming home?
I'm particularly taken with the acknowledgment and acceptance in this line that what his father and Jack had was something substantive and alluring, even though it meant Bill not being around as an active father.

But I'm not ashamed to admit that Jack (as ever, and as I'm sure is his express intent) steals the show. Yes, with Jackly antic dialogue like putrid scrap of goat-hide, I’m better in silk than satin [...] More clingy. Sets off a man’s muscles, and (a goddess ( ... )

Thank you for the wonderful feedback! See! I do write stories without Hector in them. I do!

Yup, I think Will's well aware of Jack's allure. Who isn't? But then he found out about Jack and Bill. Eeek!

Jack wouldn't be Jack if he didn't steal the show. (His telling of the story will be a whole lot LONGER too.) I happen to like Elizabeth, but it was fun to do the whole How-true-is-true-enough?-thing and bypass her completely for a change.

I want an insider's perspective on this. (She says with totally innocent intent. Not salacious. Honest. Not at all.)

I promise Part 2 will get Right Inside. *Looks innocent*

I'd apologise for the heartbreak, but there's a lot more angst-wallowing to come.

HEE!!! I don't care how angsty it gets or how abbreviated it may be; Bill/Jack lovin' is a MAJOR emotionally cathartic pay-off in the Truths and Lies universe.

I'd apologise for the heartbreak, but there's a lot more angst-wallowing to come.
Nah. That's what makes it delicious. Painfully delicious. Really, there's something sick about all of us wanting to torment these characters so, and then lapping up all that torment greedily. Oh well. I look forward to the lapping.

This is a happy surprise! sequels!! I was sorry to see that series end. What you mask with humor in the Nuts series, was openly present--and the dichotomy between what was SAID and what actually HAPPENED as in Jack's relating far more generous and heroic behavior of Bill vis-a-vis the mutiny than the studied venom and betrayal that actually occured--kept the knife in the wound through all these ( ... )

I always intended to write more Truths and Lies, but it's needed time for AWE to percolate and turn them into something slightly different. What stayed the same is that Bill is the one thing in Jack's life that went too horribly wrong to fit into his legend. I figure a character like Jack who always seems to get lucky and run between the raindrops has to have one really, really bad screw up somewhere to cancel out all those lucky escapes. I know, canonically, it's probably Cutler Beckett, but hey, it could have been Bill.

And the whole Elizabeth-William-ten-years-thing. Ten? Huh! Jack and Bill did twelve! And, yep, Jack rather embarrassed to find himself in the wrong gender role and having to make it clear that he hasn't been true in any eunuchy sense of the word. Especially with his dad there handing out satin dresses. I love the way Pirates canon saddles both heroes with embarrassing dads.

Thanks for commenting.

I admit I'm not so sure about the "pet" part *G*, but altogether you seem to have Will down pretty well as he is in canon - mostly serious, dutiful, but not lacking a sense of humor. (And just think of all those stories that have Jack still able to see Will on the Dutchman - can work for Bill, too!)

I look forward to the next part. Especially to see how Jack deals with his father (if that comes up).

I'm glad to hear you think my Will lives up (or down?) to canon. Making Bill the love of Jack's life leaves Will in a pretty thankless position at the best of times, and stuck in the sea while everything's happening on the beach is not the best of times. He'll bond with Baby William like anything once he gets on dry land. (And recovers from the embarrassment. Seeing his father with Jack must be pretty freaky, especially as he's not blind to the appeal of Jack himself.)

I'm sure Jack and Bill will find creative loopholes in the ten years at sea rule - it's not like Jack spends much time on land, after all.

This was excellent, I love the whole premise. Would say more if there were time (am out of town on my son's computer, a stolen moment).

I have not read the previous stories and will do so as soon as possible. And give proper feedback when I get home.

In the meantime, thank you! I loved this...

Hee! for stolen computer moments!

Hope it makes enough sense without the previous stories.
