I love you best friend, but I refuse to skip school to hang out with you.

I hated kids like you when I was in school. Skipping one day isn't going to kill you, and you could actually have *gasp* fun while not risking your school "career." Live a little, you're only young once.

I hated kids like you--the ones who tried to tear people down for not giving in to whatever they wanted.
Maybe skipping one day wouldn't hurt and sure it might be fun--but it's the principle of the matter. The OP shouldn't have to do anything he or she doesn't want to do, and real friends would respect that he/she said NO. No means NO.
Plus, if the OP backs down and gives in to this, who is to say that "friend" won't wheedle him or her to do more?

To the OP, good for you for sticking up for yourself. No means no and if they don't like it, they can kiss your ass.
yes you are only young once, but you also have only one YOU, and you should never compromise yourself for ANYONE.

Blah, blah, blah. All I hear is "I'm a prude who never did any fun and now I have to make sure that the people who did have fun when they were younger are told that they are bad."

Get over it, and move on. It wasn't your battle anyway. Get a life.

I am so hopelessly and pathetically in love with him--and he is gay.
And it kills me to hear him say this girl or that girl is "cute," but he never tells me I am.

Still, just to be near him at all just makes me feel so wonderful.

God please just help me stop, before I ruin the good friendship we DO have.

I'm sorry, but my first thought was: "I really really really hope you sterilised that knife."

A friend of mine wants to set me up with one of our mutual friends. It caught me off guard when she said it because I had never thought of him that way. He's a really nice guy and he's funny and we have a lot in common, except for one thing: He's skinny and I'm fat. Not horribly fat, but I am overweight. That combined with the facts that I haven't been in a relationship since 2005, the last few people I've been interested in have broken my heart, and I have low self esteem makes it hard for me to believe that someone could like me.

We all got together over the weekend for some drinks and she swears that he was flirting with me all night, and I kind of thought so too, but like I said we were drinking.

The two people I talked to about it told me to just go for it. I'd like to, but I really don't want my "issues" to get in the way and ruin something awesome that could be there.

Your issues, whatever they are, will likely always be there- they're apart of you. Give it a chance- he might really like you for who you are (issues or not).

By issues I mean just the way I think about myself. Thank you though! I think I will take a chance :)
