[returns to the table after looking at Charlie's picture book; picks up his pencil and writes his last word]

I am done! [gives Garrett a big grin]

[garrett_cain]

[he looks at his book; makes a face] No, not yet. [actually, he did finish, he just wanted to show Max that even he has homework from time to time and that it's a part of life, no matter how old you are]

[maxthemonkey]

[makes a face] Maybe a [holds his fingers together] lit-tle break. You gotta fin-ish after, though. [nods]

[garrett_cain]

[smiles] I will, I promise.

[maxthemonkey]

[scrunches his nose and makes a face at Garrett] Can we go see Indy and Sec-en Chance?

[garrett_cain]

[grins] We can do that. We'll have to tell Mommy and Mel first, though.

[maxthemonkey]

[nods, then frowns] Mommy is in a meet-in. [points to the closed office door] I am not 'lowed to knock 'cept for some-body is bleed'in.

[garrett_cain]

[nods] Okay, we'll leave a note for her then. [rips out a piece of paper from his notebook and writes Dree a note]

[he sets the note just under his book so it doesn't end up floating off the table]

[grins] I gotta put my boots on. [climbs out of the chair and kicks his shoes off]

[garrett_cain]

Don't forget to put your shoes in your room. [he points to Max's shoes]

[maxthemonkey]

[runs back, since he's made it a few feet, and picks up his shoes] I for-got. [takes off again]

[garrett_cain]

[he smiles at Max's excitement]

[maxthemonkey]

[returns a minute later with his boots in his arms; getting them on is easy, but getting them off is something he still needs help with] I am al-most ready.

[drops the boots and pulls his socks up tight, then yanks a boot over each foot; gives a heavy sigh and nods] Okay. Ready.

[garrett_cain]

Okay, let's go. [smiles; stands and then reaches out to take Max's hand] Oh, wait, we better put our cups in the sink. We'll get in trouble for sure.

[maxthemonkey]

[makes a face, then fights a grin] I will take them. [collects the cups and stacks them together, they way they do at the diner, then grabs the plate with the cookie crumbs]
