Crap, this was really good. (I don't know why I said crap, but son of a bitch is too much by now.) He's drawn like a magnet to Sawyer and can't stay away. I usually see this kind of fic with different people in the roles: Kate moving around with no fixed address; Sawyer finding her over and over and fucking on the floor between boxes.
Now I guess it's Kate that he goes back home to - ? And this line totally killed me:
He pulls a folded picture of a smiling little girl out of his wallet and Jack flinches. He’s got one of those too, only his is of a little boy whose mother never came home.
I like the spare style that catches the tiniest of details, though: Jack extends a hand and they shake. Anyone watching them would think it was a formal gesture, but Sawyer’s rubbing a rough thumb over the back of Jack’s hand and Jack’s holding on for dear life.
Wonderful wonderful story and very fresh.
