Cherry Poppin' Daddies, "Zoot Suit Riot" Hey, I didn't name 'em. Their blood pumping, big band inspired music is perfect for working out or just dancing around the living room, preferably when no one's home.
Sssswwwing!
James Horner, "Apollo 13" Or "Braveheart", or "Titanic", or "Casper", or "The Perfect Storm" ... I counted 115 film scores done by Horner since 1978. They range from stirring to exciting to heartbreaking, often in the same movie. Horner's probably my second favorite movie composer (see above). Don't forget his score for Aliens, which kinda got recycled in Clear and Present Danger.
I've noticed that Horner recycles some of his riffs into other movies, from time to time, especially in his early works. I actually stopped and rewound "Cocoon" once, when I realized there was a very short piece near the end that was an exact duplicate of a moment during a scene in "Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan". With that much music writing, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often!
have you ever wondered WHAT people were thinking when they named their band? i'm familiar with the "cherry poppin' daddies" because my spouse loves swing (i like it in small doses, really small doses, almost non-existent doses actually - right there next to jazz and blues and rap and hiphop...like not often at all - can you tell he and i don't listen to the same music much anymore?) one of my favorite groups, though, "the barenaked ladies" ... well it got my attention.
cool list. i love the beatles, simon and garfunkel and boston was the college soundtrack to my romance with the spouse. sweet memories.
Oh yeah, I love the Barenaked Ladies! Who, I'm told, do the opening music on "The Big Bang Theory". But you're right, people are either running out of name ideas or smoking something before they start brainstorming.
Ah, Bat Out of Hell! And who doesn't love anything by Johnny Cash? One of my first albums was Cash's live concert at San Quenton Prison. Fogerty, of course, is classic.
That's my problem -- I could think about it and research from now until next year, and never really be able to decide on a top ten.
Yes, constantly. My daughter has a new favorite song that she listens to over and over, and a week later it's the whole thing all over again, and I never hear the first song again.
