Happy birthday to Wizard of Oz -- the movie

I started scratching my head recently when I noticed buzz about this being the 80th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz.

Um ... no, it's not. It's the 119th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, as of this summer. What kind of over the rainbow scheme are they trying to pull off, here?

What the pundits are actually talking about, of course, is the MGM-made

I read them -- well, all of the Oz books in the Albuquerque Public Library -- it may or may not have been the entire set.

You never know. My library didn't carry any of Baum's 14, but I got quite a shock one day when I was browsing through the kid's section (I'd read all the books of interest in the adult section) and stumbled across "The Cowardly Lion of Oz". NOT one of Baum's 14, and the moment I discovered there were any extra books at all.
