During the Avilla Freedom Festival my family and I heard two good bands, met a lot of people including a new writer, toured a car show, and ate some really, really good food (for which I paid in another way later).

What I didn't do was sell a lot of books.

Yeah, I figured I wasn't alone in that--making lots of effort with little response seems to be the new reality for authors.

And I don't get how some can do exactly the same thing and do so well (sometimes even with crap product) and the rest of us do so poorly. One in my authors group does what we're doing but she's selling enough to live on (which is cool) but in talking to her, hoping for insight, the only one I got was I'm already doing it. sigh

I've noticed that before, and I don't have a clue. We both know that sometimes really crappy stories become best sellers, and really brilliant stories vanished without a trace. Every now and then the reason is apparent, but often we just have no idea at all why.

Don’t lose faith I’m sure sales will slowly increase. It’s the same with my stained glass stuff on Etsy - I get regular notifications that people are favouriting my items but no one has bought anything for a long time!!

Well, I think it's time for some new social media site to come along and take over from the old ones--which seem to have forgotten that their purpose is supposed to be to help people connect with each other. People aren't going to buy our stuff if they don't know about it.
