Writing; an interesting form...

Last night, serendipitously, I stumbled over a writing-form that I thought you might find interesting, and decided to borrow it. It was in the 2001 Annual Music Issue of the Oxford American, on pp. 50-51, written by Ron Carlson, and titled "The Twenty-Seventh Rain." The form is a set of 27 different rains that are meaningful to Ron Carlson; here are three samples to show you how it goes:

"5. THE SIDEWAYS RAIN against the beach house, ripping in waves against the shutters now and again in thrilling curtains. ..."

"17. THE RAIN OUTSIDE YOUR BEDROOM WINDOW. It is a rain that allows my tribute, my apology: I stand in the rain years ago, and I see you move the curtains."

"21. THE HITCHHIKING RAIN, almost cold, a rain we had to ignore as we faced Route 8. ..."

I really, really like this form, and I'd like to see some sets of rains that are meaningful to you -- maybe sets of ten or a dozen.

Note: "The Twenty-Seventh Rain" was with a story about Ann Peebles' music, including the hit song "I Can't Stand the Rain" that she wrote with her husband and a friend; the 27th of Carlson's rains is headed "THE RAIN WE CANNOT STAND."
