Nakamura Yoshiki - Skip Beat, vol. 06-11

I'm still not quite sure what to think about this series. I like how it's not All About the Boy, and I especially love Kyoko's giant grudge, but the manga-sports-esque battles and power-ups involving acting, of all things, has me rolling my eyes a bit. Then again, I tend to have a lower tolerance for shounen tropes anyway.

I haven't read Vol 11 yet, but I do think the series is getting better in general about being serious about the acting and Kyoko finding herself and having a goal beyond "revenge" but not being sure what it is, and less random "power up" type stuff(I hadn't really thought about it in terms of shounen sports, but that does make sense.) But I do think that it's(sadly) starting to focus a little less on Moko and Kyoko's friendship. (OTOH, Kyoko seems a lot closer to crushing on Moko than she does to crushing on Ren, which amuses me.)

I think I am less enthusiastic about the acting, although I like that Kyoko is "finding herself" via acting, but that is largely because it doesn't have enough concrete, realistic details to hit my usual "details about work" button, so it keeps throwing me out. Though still, Kyoko's crush on Moko totally amuses me, and I love that that's what got her crying and whatnot in the angel/devil commercial.

I love the crush. It reminds me of Watanuki's crush on Himawari: just sheer, overwhelming, utterly asexual adoration.
