I adored The Winter Prince, was completely indifferent toward A Coalitions of Lions, and I love this one.

Oooh, I love MGT's Attolia trilogy. I've been ambivalent about Wein after reading other reviews, but your comparison has decided it.

I highly, highly, highly rec Winter Prince. Highly. And you can probably skip over the second book; I think the Telemakos books read fine without it.

I just read the first two of these on sovay's rec, and quite liked them (I want to do a re-read before I blog them). What I can't understand is how I didn't run into them before - I'm usually on the lookout for good YA fiction, including historicals.

WAIT - there are sequels to The Winter Prince?! OMG, awesome! Not reading the review yet, because of spoilers, but I totally can't wait to see what you think about the books!

Yes! There are! Though I will say that they are very, very different from Winter Prince; I think the Telemakos books work better than Coalitions because they are farther from Winter Prince and therefore less comparable, if that makes sense.
