Job, day 2

So far I have organized the corporate history and the Chinese language section. Well, Chinese fiction at least. I like doing this so far. I like how I'm not sitting at a desk every day staring at the computer screen, which is funny because in my free time, that's pretty much all I do. So my legs are sore from all the sitting on the floor and ( Read more... )

I like them older too! I just like a feeling of fully developed character though, so I'm not stuck on the age thing. I'm glad to hear that the job is well and I understand what you mean about the feeling of having a job. I can't really picture myself fully retired ever and suspect if I ever am, it will be more like my dad or other family friends that still do consulting or substantial volunteer work in some area they love. I missed you online today; hope you had a good one.

I loved Eowyn as a child too (and still do) and also Galadriel who has a wonderfully rich backstory. I never had a big investment in the Angel Buffy story or the Spike one but I've always enjoyed Buffy as a character. I think that there are aspects of Willow I relate too, the geekiness, social awkwardness, curiousity, etc; but, for personal traits and challenges, it's always been Buffy for me.

Mmm, have just finished cleaning the apartment and making dinner (saw your link to the manga article, thanks!). Finally, LJ time! I don't think I'm stuck on the age thing in other genres, but I tend to gravitate to the more atypical heroines in romance at least, mostly because the standard heroine in historicals are eighteen (or younger), innocent, virginal, optimistic, happy, and generally Good People who will help orphanages and kicked puppies. You get the idea ;). I think a lot of it is because I was never a girl like that -- I was moody and unpredictable and withdrawn and perpetually scared of having my heart broken. So I loved Louise in Judith Ivory's Beast, who is eighteen and viriginal but is also smart enough to not want to be and to dislike the constraints of her life. She felt real to me, unlike the heroines who are too often too good to be true ( ... )

Hey! You got the job! Go, you! (And you picked up the first Otherland book, proving what impeccable taste you have :).

Hee, thanks ;). I've read his other books, and one of my friends finally picked up Otherland and liked it... plus, there was the other friend who wrote her thesis on the thing and never stopped talking about it! Figured I should get around to it sometime.
