Turner, Megan Whalen - The King of Attolia

Feb 21, 2006 14:10

Stand-alone sequel to The Thief and The Queen of Attolia. Insert standard warning here to not read either of the sequels until you've read The Thief, because one of the best parts about Turner is that she can pull off surprises like nothing else ( Read more... )

I just finished The King of Attolia yesterday. :)

It's interesting seeing the progression to a narrative distance from Gen through the three books.

I liked this too (after the same initial disappointment about so much of Costis's POV). It makes me wonder how she's going to handle the next book, since it seems clear that there ought to be one. We never even found out for sure what happened to Sophos, which made me sad.

Eeeexactly!! And there was this sort of hint at a future crisis for Gen if Eddis' and Attolia's interests were ever in conflict! I went to the author's website to check and see if there was anything about another book, but nothing =(.

It's clear that we have to have a novel about how Gen rescues Sophos so Eddis can marry him, and then the Medes invade, and maybe Sophos wants to cut a deal, and so we have conflict, and Gen gets to kill off Nasuheresh. Right?

Oh totally. And there should be lots and lots of backstabbing and political intrigue involving three different courts, because we haven't really gotten to see the court at Sounis yet, so really, Gen could rescue Sophos and Eddis and Gen and Attolia could all go there for the wedding, except stuff happens!

Why oh why is there no news of this on her website?

Yay, I can read this review now :)

Someone said in the comments to my post that over at sounis, Megan Whalen Turner answered some questions and that there will be a fourth book at some point.

>i.e. Gen plays the role of the heroine who softens the tough hero up with the Power of Love<

Bwah! He totally does, doesn't he?

I reread all three books yesterday and today. Still undecided as to whether Queen or King is my favorite. Oh the indecision.

Eeee fourth book!

I love Gen so much! I know, I still wibble between the two, just because of the bedside scenes and Gen kissing Irene in front of everyone.
