I love it when the kids tell you they mentioned your bands to their teachers and friends and the responces, are, "I loved that song!"... knowing full well, nobody 13 years old in Tyler ever heard your singles :)
I love it when they run up to me and scream, "Mommie!! Did you KNOW Jon Stone was on MTV???!?"
I love you, Rock Star. Now it's time to get your butt up and go to the "Family Service" at Christ Episcopal. It's not the Omni, and it's not new wave, but you definately have an appearance to make :)
I'm pretty sure it's the 'prophet in his own land' phenomenon. I'm more 'famous' today in the here and now because it was long ago and far away. And I've just enough on the resume to look impressive. A bunch of songs, some CDs, some posters and videotape...but as Costello has so wisely said "I got close enough to fame to know now that I don't really want it."
So far, it's totally a fun thing, seeing how much I can dredge up. And I'm not sure it's all that interesting. I don't sink low enough or go high enough for today's market. But I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

March 20, 1982! Jeez, Jon, how do you remember that?
I was there, too, as you recall... it was my P.A. that Joe Starr's Omni rented most nights. It was, indeed, a dive, and most of the bands sucked. But the P.A. was good.
I remember chatting with Andy Summers a bit that evening. I think he mentioned something about how he had hoped people in Texas would be doing something more interesting than playing video games. I apologized on behalf of the state.
I hung out with Andy Summers a couple of times several years later in L.A. He invited me to check out his recording studio in Venice Beach, which I did, and was duly wowed. At some point I brought up the Houston meeting, and he didn't remember any of it. I was very annoyed... after that apology and all.

You know, I had forgotten that your PA was used there. I DO remember running sound at Echo Beach using your PA, switching nights with you and Ric Poss. Wasn't there a 'company' name we/you used? I ran sound for Jesse Sublett and The Skunks, I recall. Other bands as well, but they impressed me the most. It's funny because I don't remember you being there at the Omni but then I know for a fact that Barb was there but after Summers & Copeland arrived, she no longer figures in my memory of events. What a cruddy boyfriend I was, I guess. I'm working on a piece about Southern Cross. Any memories?
