random stuff and yuletide guessing

It's a darrrrrrk and storrrrrrmy day out. But I'm not letting a little storm change my plans, which are shopping for boots and a freezer and maybe a winter coat*, and seeing the Hobbit. Sadly in 2D - why is it so hard to find a 3D performance at a time I can make? Is it going to be spoiled a little by seeing it in 2D ( Read more... )

fandom: the hobbit, yuletide

There is absolutely no reason to see The Hobbit in 3D (though there is EVERY REASON to see it in general). The scenes in Fangorn Forest have scarred me for life because of 3D o_O

God, I don't like to think of that scene in 3D!! I think some of the scenery shots would have been awesome in 3D, but I'm happy I went to the convenient 2D screening, because if I'd waited for a 3D one, I might have ended up missing it.

I still haven't seen the new Hobbit movie and I'll just have to wait for it to come out on DVD because I'm pathetic and can't handle the loudness (mostly the deep bass) of the surround sound in movie theaters. Instead, I re-watched the first Hobbit movie the other day so the anticipation is building. That said, I would love to see it in 3D!

I'm the fussiest person ever about cinemas - I only go to the nice little cinemas, the ones that serve wine and hummus (I actually had coffee and carrot cake with the movie today - yummy), and aren't full of kids throwing popcorn! But sound is never an issue for me - such a shame you don't get on with it. Mind you, I think the films would work best all together - I had to try to remember what had happened in the first movie.

I have NO PROBLEM reccing stories I beta read. That's because they are great stories. *g* But I only rec the story if I would have read it independently of having beta read it. I think I beta'd seven stories this year, but four were in fandoms I've never heard of/didn't know the source, and so whether I think the story is good or not, I would not rec it. Possibly that's weird of me, but it's a system, and it's mine. :)

I often rec stories I beta! I just think an entire post of nothing but stories I've betaed might be a bit much. *g*

Actually, I don't think it's weird - I think it's sensible. If you're not familiar with the fandom, you can't fully tell if the story works, if it's in character, fits canon, etc. So even if a story I'd betaed without knowing canon seemed brilliant to me (not naming any particular story I might have betaed on Christmas eve *g*), I wouldn't rec it on the basis that I couldn't be quite sure. But I will rec stories in fandoms I don't know well, as long as I have at least a tenuous grip on the characters.

I saw it in 2D -- 3D gives me headaches -- and loved it.

I love 3D, but I don't think it suffered from 2D - I'm just glad I finally got to see it!
