The Chap Olympiad 2012

Jul 05, 2012 22:21

I am so tempted to go to this at the weekend, as I'll be in London anyway (though maybe not dressed appropriately).

They have events like shouting at foreigners, cucumber sandwich discus, umbrella jousting, butler baiting, swooning, the pipeathalon and ironing board surfing. Also refined refreshments (their words). The dress code is elegant ( Read more... )

I cracked up at seeing this post as my husband has been gearing up for the Chap Olympiad all week. He has spent the day in a straw Panama hat, bow tie, and shirt-sleeve bands.

He bought 'posh eggs' (a brand he stumbled over in Tesco), hard boiled them, and popped them back in the box to take along and offer people for lunch. He was joined by several friends and they spent the day sipping from plastic champagne glasses.

I unfortunately wasn't able to join in as I was leading a school trip, but have been enjoying the pictures as they are texted through. :)

Oh, that is simply awesome! I'll have to look out in Tesco for posh eggs (and chuckle to myself when I spot them).

I didn't make it to the Chap Olympiad, as I didn't get to London that day after all, but I have seen Posh at the Duke of York's! Not quite the same thing, but still.

That sounds glorious. :D Did you go?

I spent this morning selling tickets for an open garden to people so very British darling that I had to leave the room because I couldn't stifle my giggles.

I didn't go in the end, no. Saturday was chaos, so I didn't make it to London, which was a sad waste of theatre tickets! :-(

I love it when people are so ridiculously OTT posh! Hilarious!

Aww... that's sad. London is likely to be total chaos as well with the Olympics coming up. I'm escaping to Ireland for the first week. :D

I'm trying to be phlegmatic about it. And look forward instead to my next to visits to London, both during the Olympics!! (Actually, there may be three visits). I booked a play for one evening, thinking it was after the Olympics, but I'd put the wrong dates for the Olympics in my calendar! Oops.

Ireland sounds like a good idea! Here's hoping it's drier by then!

Who invented such a thing, for I am jealous of their genius!! That would be so much fun to attend some time. If you didn't make it this year, perhaps another year you shall.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for it next year! I didn't manage to get to London that day after all, so I missed it, but it'd be fun maybe to get a little group together, dress up a bit.
