Jeremy Renner/Journal backups/Yuletide guessing

Dec 30, 2011 20:50

+ Everyone who's falling for Jeremy Renner post MI4 and from The Avengers trailers (trailer singular? I know I've watched one a few dozen times, but I can't remember if there's more than one yet) should check out The Unusuals. Especially recommended if you love ensemble TV full of quirky characters and lots of chemistry. Should you be thinking ( Read more... )

JEREMY! I'm glad everybody is getting on the bandwagon with me! Hurt Locker totally rocked me, then I want back and watched him play Dahmer so chillingly and I've been hooked ever since. Although, even I'm a bit of a Janey-come-lately.

Hurt Locker has been on my 'I want to watch but I'm too scared' list for the last couple of years! I've head it's really good. But The Unusuals is great, and it's really great to see his name suddenly popping up all over the place.

He's been around forever - he just turned 40 - but always in low budget things like Dahmer or that movie with Minnie Driver, or as a supporting actor like in SWAT. I DID like the Unusuals, though.

If you can watch GK, you should be able to watch Hurt Locker. It's darker, but it really is about the MEN, and not so much the action.

By popping up all over the place, I meant on my flist. I know he's been around in movies, he's just had a relatively quiet rise, popularity-wise, so it's nice seeing his name crop up on my flist.

I really struggled watching GK the first time around - I was constantly set to duck behind a cushion! I've been fine since, because I know what's coming, and in particular that the main characters all survive. But looking at the parent advisory page on imdb for The Hurt Locker, I think I'd spend a lot of time with my hands over my face, way too tense. I did try watching it once, I just didn't get far. I know, I'm chicken!

Thanks for the Semagic update! Very useful. Now I just need to find the time to do it asap.
Follow-up question, what format does it save in, and can you export to another format? With LJarchive, you ended up with its own archive file, but you could export to pdf or html (in chunks per day, month or year).

I have to confess, I have no idea! I can access all the posts through Semagic (you can scroll down, and I think you might be able to search - I haven't tried everything yet), but I can't work out where the posts are saved (not in the program file) or what format they're in! I've actually searched my computer, but not knowing what the file would be called, I haven't had any success yet. I googled quickly, and no joy, so perhaps Sunday or Monday when I've more time, I'll see if I can work it out.

Hah, I should edit in a 'I barely know what I'm talking about' disclaimer to the Semagic rec!

Thank you for going to check in the first place.

'I barely know what I'm talking about'
That's precisely what makes the rec valuable. It confirms that this is user-friendly and easily functional without a lot of figuring out.
I'll be curious to hear if you find out more, whenever you happen to backup.

I haven't done anything much more about it as I've been ill for the last couple of weeks. Sorry! I did have another go trying to find a back up file, and couldn't, so maybe it'd just be worth you trying it out and seeing if you can work it out? Semagic is free, and it's not that time consuming to do, so even if it turns out not to be what you're after, at least you wouldn't have lost out. I'm still a bit bemused though - I mean, a backup of my journal must be a pretty huge file, so I don't know why I can't find it!

My only guess for your fic is the awesome Breakfast Club one, and I think I'm wrong. It doesn't really have your voice, but it's high quality and has the sense of humanity about it that I always associate with your characters. (My other guess for that was kaneko, but iI didn't see her signed up). Anyhoo, <333

That's an interesting guess! *is cryptic*

I haven't come across anything that I thought might be yours yet. Though I haven't read either of the two Shelter fics yet, and I'm thinking they might be possibilities. The frustrating thing is I'm out all day tomorrow, and *need* an early night tonight, so almost no guessing/blind reccing time left!

I haven't read the Breakfast Club one yet, but I have it bookmarked, and having glanced at it, I'm incredibly flattered you thought it might be mine!

I had no idea you could do that with Semagic and I've been using it to post for years! Thanks for the heads up!

I had no idea too until someone asked me if you could use it to archive, so I checked it out, and lo and behold, you can!

yup.. falling for Jeremy bad. LOL. It was those arms in the Hawkeye costume. hehe. I love when I fall for an actor that has done so much quality stuff. I loved the Unusuals and I'm really sorry it was cancelled so soon. I guess their humour was too hard to handle for the masses. But it's a really good show.

thanks for the Semagic rec.. I will check it out.

Happy New Year! :D

I loved the quirky sort of humour in The Unusuals - it was just such a great ensemble cast. It sucks when smart shows go under, and rubbish succeeds!

Happy New Year to you!
