I'm so glad I didn't say at the start of October that I was planning on posting daily. I've managed to post each week, though. That's something

Oh, I'm feeling fine now, thanks! I'm just not risking non-bland food! *g*
Thanks for the link! Weirdly, it refuses to play for me, even though I have the right Flash player installed. But I'm sure it'll either decide to play, or I'll come across another version eventually.
I much prefer TUC to saltines - they resemble each other, but saltines (those I've tried in the US), are generally thinner, more flaky, and less 'oily' on the surface than TUC is. I missed TUC crackers when I lived in the US ;)
I am sure they have the same effect, though - I would guess it is the salt and the filling/calming feeling of crackers that does the trick. I agree that they are good to eat when you're feeling sick, though I usually eat crisp bread (wasa).
Glad to hear you are doing better! I hope you're well enough to eat what you want again soon! It gets tiresome surviving on just a few types of food stuffs.
Sounds like we've got nothing over here that are an exact match to saltines then - I hunted up and down the shelves, but Tuc were the closest thing I could find. I bought pretzels too, and then remembered that I'm not wild about them - one or two are okay, but that's about it.
I could probably have risked something more for dinner, but I just wanted to play safe. It's been boring, though!
I think the airiness and lack of oil is actually what makes saltines so attractive when you've got an upset stomach. But yes, for pure cracky goodness, Tucs all the way.
As for where to find them, I know that in Sweden you can usually find something more saltine- than Tuc-like in boxes of assorted crackers (usually marketed for cheese platters), but I don't know if you guys have that kind of stuff. Might not be worth it for just a handful of crackers if Tuc is doing the job for you.
Oh, and yes, crisp bread is the only thing I can eat when I have an upset stomach.
Saltines does sound like a better bet for the worst spell - I stuck to cream crackers, which are about as plain as you can get for a couple of days, and only progressed to the Tuc crackers last night. A box of cheese crackers might have been a good idea. I thought of Bath Olivers too, though I always automatically expect cavier with them!
I don't think those are saltines -- "buttery" makes them sound more like what I'd call Ritz crackers. Saltines are really dry -- they taste like, basically, nothing, plus salt.
You might find them called soda crackers? But I suspect they may not exist in the UK.

Sounds like I'd really like them! I love salt! But I can't think of anything here that matches that - most of the crackers proudly advertised themselves as being low salt.
BTW, I meant to upload some photos I took on Saturday for you. I was on the south bank, and I took some pictures to check the angle of the towers on St Paul's for you! To get the right angle for that screencap, you couldn't be very far west of St Paul's. I went nearly as far east as the Oxo Tower (it'll show up on Google maps), and the angle was still off. It left a very small area where the building might be.
Nope, crackers with a rich buttery taste aren't saltines. I'm pretty sure another term for saltines is "soda crackers"; they're flat, very non-greasy, fairly salty -- easy on iffy stomachs
( ... )
I actually like Matzoh crackers, though I usually put vegemite on them to make up for the lack of well, anything resembling flavour! *g*
Thanks for all the extra info. Jackie - I think I have a pretty good idea of saltines now. And hopefully will stop looking at the word and picturing a salty sardine!
