IP logging

So, livejournal's gone and brought in a new feature and pissed off1 half2 its users. Including me. I know that technically, whenever an IP address is logged, someone can go and check it up online, but actually including location next to the IP address is one step too far. It's creepy and invasive and incredibly badly thought-out. ETA: They're ( Read more... )

I just wish LJ would speak to the users *before* implementing new features like this, instead of deciding what we want for us!

I hope other people turn off IP logging!

Yes, I noticed that, too! I thought it was something that had happened while I was gone, but apparently I came back just in time for more LJ admin shenanigans...

But at least they've taken the hint very quickly, and they're reversing it! \o/

Also, hi!!!

I've turned it off as well - I didn't even know it was on, frankly I have never had cause to use it...

Gah. Why are social media such arses on stuff like that (like the most recent facial recognition on facebook photos fail, frankly, why do they keep trying???)?

ION, I have just posted my third SPN fic in six months (granted, the other two are crossovers), and it occurred to me that the first time I ever wrote SPN was for one of your Porn Battle four years ago. In other words - it's all your fault, bb. Or, if you prefer, I have you to thank (I have been finding it rather fun, even though I plough the lonely furrow that is het SPN fic. We are few...)

Oh fuck. Late for a meeting - must dash...

I actually like LJ (and DW) the best out of the social media sites, but I wish it wouldn't try to be more like some of the others. The reason I don't use Facebook is because I don't like it! I don't want LJ to be more like it!! But, the good news is that they're getting rid of the new feature, so they listened and took note pretty quickly!

Are you still watching SPN? I gave up early in season 5, and just haven't been able to work up any enthusiasm to try it again. It's really weird running an SPN community!

I don't really use other social media, not least because I prefer being anonymous on the web, rather than leaving a big fat trail of stuff that will follow me to my grave... But yes, good reaction from the LJ authorities, am pleasantly surprised (why they don't test out these things beforehand is beyond me, though)

I am totally still watching SPN, and enjoying it even if the last season was a bit hit and miss (it's hard to top the apocalypse). Mostly I just watch it for the pretty, on which front it always delivers...

Thank you for the ice cream cone btw!! Totally the right thing for today (which was even on the sunny side in London...)

*blows kisses*

Same here!

Sadly, once I lost interest in the storyline, I just couldn't make myself sit through the horror aspect of the show, which was always a bit of a struggle for me - I scare easily when it comes to tv stuff! It's weird, I'd never have thought I'd stop caring about the characters, but I just did. I got all excited when I heard people saying Lenore had returned, and I was going to watch that episode, and then I learned they'd gone and killed her, so I didn't have the heart to watch it. I adored Lenore. :-(

I'm mostly forgiving them now, as they're changing it back - they listened to the users! Asking first might be a better idea, but still, better than ignoring us completely.
