He's actually going to be playing the Creature again on Saturday. If you want to see him as Victor, you last chances are tomorrow or Monday. I don't think I could see JLM as the Creature after seeing BC.

You might struggle to get a ticket though - I just lucked out on a return. But good luck getting one if you try! And thanks for the offer of company - I'm actually quite happy going alone, though I know some people don't like to.

Did you manage to get to see it again before the end of the run? I so hope you did, because I'm feeling quite bereft that it's over now.

Are you seeing Johnny's Creature too? I actually really disliked Benedict's creature (he wasn't bad it just didn't work for me) and the play as a whole when cast that way but I thought his Frankenstein was amazing, so cold and terrifying but so sympathetic too.

Agreed. I thougt JLM's creature was wonderful. So childlike at the beginning, so innocent which made his eventual fall all the harder. BC's creature to me was born broken/damaged/with original sin and that made me far less sympathetic.

On a purely aesthetic note JLM is far fitter and more athletic, his creature had a natural grace that BC couldn't, or perhaps wasn't trying to, match.

I agree BC was far better as Frankenstien though even there he was playing a type where JLM was playing a man.

This is fascinating, as I got the opposite out of the two versions of the Creature (I ended up seeing both castings) - BC's Creature was so clumsy and awkward and retained his awkwardness much longer, and that made me so much more aware throughout that although he was a full-size man, he was only a child in years. And I found his performance in scene six (where he's watching the birds and there's a shower of rain) incredibly touching.

I did find JLM's Creature's anguish at the end, when he thinks he's lost his master, particularly poignant though - I'd be hard pressed to say which version of the last scene I preferred.

On a purely aesthetic note JLM is far fitter and more athletic, his creature had a natural grace that BC couldn't, or perhaps wasn't trying to, match.

Maybe it was a variation in the nights we saw it, but I thought that of the two, BC was more able/comfortable in the moments where he leaps up on the scaffolding or jumps through the bedchamber window.

Anyway, it's fascinating to hear different thoughts of the

That's what makes theatre so interesting, you can get very different performances on different nights, especially with a play like this when the two leads are watching and learning from each other.

he leaps up on the scaffolding or jumps through the bedchamber window.

Perhaps I saw him on a couple of bad nights. JLM seemed far more athletic to me - sliding down the scaffolding with his legs straight out behind him like a gymnast and leaping up through the window without putting his hands down.

I looks like most nights were really good no matter which way round the casting was.

I saw it the other way round. Obviously I can't compare but JLM was awesome as the Creature. I really want to see both versions but meh... :((((

It would be wonderful if you could see both versions. Maybe if it repeats in a cinema? I managed to see both in the end, which was absolutely fascinating, but BC was the one I could go back and watch repeatedly.

I probably won't be able to which is a shame. But I'm looking forward to my next theatre trip, Government Inspector. \o/

I saw it last weekend here in the states, but with JLM as the creature. Who was a revelation! Completely mesmerizing, and Benedict was lovely as Victor. Unfortunately, we only had three screenings of it here, so I won't get the opportunity to see the other version, but I count myself really lucky to have been able to see it at all. :)

I think the NT Live provision is brilliant - I'm sad that not everyone who wants to could see it in the theatre, because that gave the full experience, but I'm glad you got to see the filmed version at least.

Maybe the cinemas will show it again? Some in the UK have, presumably because they were booked solidly for the first showings.
