American idiot peoples - a fic related question. How old do you reckon Tunny and Will are meant to be at the beginning/end of the show? And am I right to assume it's taking place in the present day? I always put Tunny at 20 when I write him. I can't remember what I based that on, but I definitely had logical reasons for it when I decided :b

Is that twenty by the end of the show? It's a bit hard to guess how long a time period the show covers, but I guess at least a year. So I can give him and Will a birthdate of around 1990, and work from there.

Yeah. I always figure they age with my little brother, who is 22 in January, so...That's about right.

I use my toast icon when there's bad news. Otherwise, I just go with Remy LeBeau's eyeball. It's emotionally nondenominational.

I use my 'not amused' one when things are going badly for someone, but otherwise I use one of my neutral non-fannish ones. And as I change them from time to time, they get replaced with whatever's currently my default.

I have way more icons for happy things!

I don't have near enough non-fannish icons. And when I only had the basic 30, I saw things I wanted as icons everywhere; now that I can have a 90 or whatever, I haven't managed to gather up more than 60 or so. And of those? I always seem to go with the same couple of dozen.

I'm bloody hopeless, iconishly speaking.

I ended up buying more icons, once we were able - I have so many fandoms, and I like to use a fandom appropriate icon when I'm commenting on a fic/posting, that I just never seemed to have enough! I find it hard to find really nice non-fannish ones, though - some of my favourite makers seem to have disappeared, and I'm useless at non-fannish icons.

It's done! This one (my default for ages) is pretty, but it's just so... silent.

Uh... I have only had about 3 default icons. For a long time it was a pretty picture of Brooke Nevin - the monochromic one that is in my header. Because it was nice and not really objectionable. Then it was smiling River. Which does have the potential for inappropriateness. But I tried to change it.

Now it's this one which you're familiar with because you made it! I think it's good because it proudly displays my alltime favourite OTP but isn't overtly porny. And there's no real emotion either (except perhaps curiosity but the world just imploded so you can understand that!).

Mostly I think almost anything is suitable. Though personally I wouldn't friend anyone who regularly used icons in their posts that were NC-17. I (and I'm sure many others) read my flist in public and that's going to gather too much attention.

I don't have any NC-17 icons! I have some hugs and kisses, and I have a Supernatural Wincesty manip, but that's just a hug. I used to know someone who had an animated icon (that she used a lot) of a hand dripping blood, and that used to really turn my stomach, but these days I just adblock any icons I really can't stand (which is basically just flashy animated ones).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who ponders this!
