It comes out, later. Sam had told Josh he was doing more good as a lawyer than a politico. He had consulted, quietly. He had got some names together, and started the ball rolling. Nobody in California had cared. In DC, it turns out, they kind of do.

Toby slams Sam against the wall, the newspaper crumpled in his hands. Sam fumbles the cord of the blinds, shutting out the light in the office that used to belong to Toby and now belongs to him.

Toby stutters when he’s furious. “Sam. Sam- tell me, tell me you weren’t this stupid. Tell me you didn’t-“

“How did you even get in here?”

“Sam-“

“No, seriously, they let you walk in?”

“They didn’t. They did, however, call up here, and apparently Josh thinks you needed the kind of ass-kicking he was unable to provide.”

“They handed me the petition.”

“They didn’t hand you the petition, Sam. Yours is the- Yours is the first name!”

“The President gave you the pardon, you didn’t need my help.”

“I didn’t need anyone’s help, Sam. I was quite prepared to take the five years that my country, and ( ... )

*g* One day I will write porn with no dialogue, but probably not soon. I may have been rewatching S7 when I wrote this. And thinking 'when the President is all sigificant when he's talking to Toby about them suspecting CJ, is he implying something?'

Oh man, I didn't even think about what Sam's reaction must have been to Toby's leak. *is new to the Sam/Toby idea* This is perfect! Of course Sam would have thought he was brave! <3 And, of course, this is painfully hot!

... I think this may be my fourth or fifth attempt at writing Sam's reaction. Or at least some sort of S7 and beyond meet-up. For I am obsessed ;)
