What if?

Last night I dreamt that Paddywhack was leaving the show. I woke up with a plaintive 'no!' on my lips ( Read more... )

he looks flight of the pheonix pudgy. i'd say a couple years old at least.

concerning actors leaving the show. i was going to say ABSOLUTELY NOT but then it worked great for due south. if jared or jensen left the show, i think it wouldn't survive much longer, so whether i'd watch it or not is moot. but for the sake of argument: i'd watch it--to lament the dearly departed. there's no way they could recreate that chemistry.

That's a relief, because the pudgy jawline and the scruffy bit of 'tash combined are scary-awful!

It worked amazingly well for DS, though I think the totally wacky explanation they came up for the new Ray was the sort of thing few shows could pull off (Northern Exposure could, or Maximum Bob, but few others)! But I tried to imagine SPN with say Dean and his cousin Tim, and I just can't see it.

Mind you, Joss managed to kill off Buffy for a few episodes and keep the show going well over that spell. But then that show had a strong ensemble cast, unlike SPN.

i wouldn't put it past kripke to kill dean or sam at the end of a season (probably not this one, though). no one who gave it two thoughts would doubt that the offed winchester would be back, being an essential lead character and all, but it'd be a fuck up anyway. though spn is not quite as hokey as btvs, so perhaps not. unless they get really desperate five or six seasons from now. ;)

*drools at the idea of six+ seasons, ngh*

I don't know enough about Kripke to know what sort of games he's likely to play with cliffhangers and deaths. Gah, if he did though, that would be one fucking long hiatus!!!

Six season, yis!! *likes that idea*

Well, it worked for due South, but failed for Northern Exposure. I guess it depends on how much the show is carried by a single actor, and how much it's an ensemble piece.

Funnily enough, I just mentioned NE as an example of a show that could have pulled off the sort of wacky explanation for a character change that DS went for. But Joel was just too central to the theme of the show - his departure upset the whole balance for me, even though it was a strong ensemble cast. And I guess it was at such a late stage in the show too, so accepting the new doctor was never going to be easy.

If it had been Fraser leaving DS, rather than Ray V, I don't think there's any way they could have kept it going. Just the thought of a different actor in the role...

And it worked for replacing Ford with Ronon on SGA. I wonder whether any of the SGA characters are irreplaceable - I don't think so, if they just replaced a single one of the primaries. Even McKay. Maybe.

Much as I liked Ford, there was no way that he was essential. And wasn't that a planned replacement? (I don't tend to follow behind the show news.)

I would be extremely sad if McKay, Sheppard or Zelenka in particular were to go, but I don't think it would dramatically change the show. None of them are absolutely essential to the storyline - in fact, only Atlantis is really. It might well affect the way I viewed it as a fandom though, and my desire to write for in the fandom.

I wouldn't have been able to watch Buffy without SMG. I barley made it withour Anthony Head. Angel w/out Angel mmm no, though even with Angel i didn't care much for Season 1.

As too SPN, I don't think the character's could be recast, but if one of the brothers was killed off, I would but the show simply revolving around the other brother and his quest for revenge.

I think if Welling quit Smallville would have to hang it up, ditto for Rosenbaum quitting. You need those 2.

I think I could have watched it, but I doubt if it would ever have been the same without her. As for Angel, for me losing Lindsey was the worst thing - I never felt quite the same about the show after he left.

As too SPN, I don't think the character's could be recast, but if one of the brothers was killed off, I would but the show simply revolving around the other brother and his quest for revenge.

The difficulty with that would be that the one remaining brother wouldn't have anyone to talk to in the car, anyone to share information with, and it would be extremely difficult to write. They'd really have to bring in someone else as a new character, and then you'd end up with a different dynamic and that would be a huge risk.

I think if Welling quit Smallville would have to hang it up, ditto for Rosenbaum quitting. You need those 2.Technically, they could carry on without Lex Luthor at this stage, imo. But losing Rosenbaum would weaken the show immensely, and I don't think ( ... )

Well i do have an irrational love of SMG and ASH so . . . *lol*
Yes I think losing Lindsey was a low moment for Angel, I think there was much more to be explored there. I would have liked more Lindsey less Spike no offense to Marsters. I think in general AtS had a hard time finding it's place but when it did it was great. Lindsey was generally undervalued IMO.

Yes the dynamic on SN would shift but with the right actor another character could allow the show to continue. it would certainly be different though.

Oh I agree the show could go on without lex but I think the ratings would suffer tremedously from lack of Rosenbaum. He is one of the stronger performers on the show and it would lose something without him. Not to mention I think viewers are so invested in the dynamic bewtween Lex and Clark/ Tom and michel that fans would revolt at a firing or recats. But you never know X-Files went on after David Duchovny left.

well, the show went on, but how many of the original fans had been lost by that point?

I'm telling you, man. Ellis dies, they name the hospital after her, and all of a sudden Meredith is COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY and the show becomes subtitled The Bailey Fucking Rocks Hour and it is the BEST SHOW EVER.

You know I'm right.

Oh God you're my hero. I think I love you.

May I make a few suggestions? 1.When Meredith goes can she take the twitchy, sweaty George with her. Please? And while I love your new title can we subtitle it The Bailey, Christina/Burke Fucking Rocks Hour? Really I don't think the show would be even a smidgen worth watching if Christina and Burke weren't on it, perferably together but I'd adjust. I mean really, Christina naked and Burke telling pal George to get out is just priceless. I never tire of watching that scene. The only thing better would be if George would just keep going right out of Seattle.

Hey, if your idea for Grey's Anatomy actually happens I can start watching it again! Everyone seems to love it, but I physically shudder at the thought of having to put up with Meredith again. Just can't do it.

Those pictures look to be from around late season 4 - early season 5 of Gilmore Girls. I wouldn't worry about that being anything new.

Well, that puts paid to the idea that I'd ever watch old seasons of Gilmore Girls for the sake of JP! Eeek. But it's definitely a relief to know they're old photos.

I actually think I might be able to stand Meredith if she'd been better cast - I really can't understand the casting of an actress who's clearly a decade too old for the part and who has the most irritating voice ever. I just tune out during her scenes...

That's nothing compared to how he actually looked on the show. Exhibit A. Also, his character turns decidedly douche-like sooner or later. Even if you don't start disliking him in season 1 (as I did), seasons 4 and 5 are bound to kill any goodwill at all towards the character. There's a reason I have "hating Dean" as a LJ interest. I would definitely not recommend GG for those looking to see more of Jared. Even if he was kinda cute in season 1. And I mean cute in a "OMG, he's 16 and baby-faced" kinda way.

I bailed on GA after episode 4 when four guys fell for/declared love for/lusted after that shrew in one episode. That was such terrible writing I couldn't even comprehend how they ever thought that was a good idea. But yeah, the actress didn't help matters.

Yes, that was just absurd to the greatest degree! I can suspend belief a certain amount, but that was just too much.

*laughs* Oh dear, that bad, huh? I can't say that either of the pictures appeal either - I don't want to picture him as a teenager, and exhibit A was decidedly ropey!
