nothing metaphorical here. hija_paloma April 19 2006, 16:31:24 UTC
Sushi finished reading this, handed me the laptop, and said "Here, read this now." She'd told me about the story a few weeks back and I've been dying to read it--and she was right, this is brilliant. And it did make me cry, but it's a little hopeful, too, and a little... a little scary, a little something I don't have the words for. But it feels very true to SGA, you know, because even in the face of overwhelming doom & despair, there's still an overlying humor to it. I didn't expect to laugh while reading this, but coming from a show where the characters crack jokes about the Wraith and their Weekly Inevitable Destruction, it's most welcome.

Ah, she's been so encouraging with this story! I'm just glad it wasn't a disappointment after her build-up!

I'm so pleased that worked for you. Because that's one of the things that I love about the show, the humour even at the worst of times.

aentient!atlantis is always a wonderful trope, but you've gone beyond this, changed it to create an utterly amazing outlook where john and atlantis have a special relation and yet that's not enough. john's final insight was comforting, but it was the realism of the situation, the financial accountability and all their ultimate professionalism that makes your story stark and special!

thank you!!!

Wow, thank you so much for such lovely feedback. It's given me a warm, happy glow, because you've really covered the theme and sentiment that I was aiming for, and it's always a thrill to know that I've actually achieved what I set out to do.

There's always hope, at least that's how I look at it! *nods* I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Sad, and absolutely beautiful. I love the voices in this, particularly John. Also how he and Rodney understand each other so well without saying a lot (or without John necessarily saying a lot) - the argument and the passing of the salt shaker was perfect.

Lovely, lovely work.

Thanks so much - I'm so thrilled that you think the voices work and that you enjoyed it.

Phew! The argument was written post beta, and I didn't like to pester my betas again, so that's a big relief to hear!
