Are there any underground vaults in any of the Oxford colleges which ever get used for putting on shows, in Murder in the Cathedral style? Are there any that aren't, but could be made to fulfill the necessary health & safety regs?

Thanks!

You can get into them if you're crafty and many are connected.

You can? How? Have you been in?

I don't know of any.

I saw Murder in Brasenose Chapel. First half in the entrance, second half in the main bit. Beautiful location for it.

The Clarendon Building cellars might be useful; they're definitely safe because that's the after-hours exit from the building, apart from anything else. I have no idea whether they would even entertain the suggestion of being used.

The cellars? Not when I was working there, no. Storage, open space, and the loos. :)

But why would you want to do it in Oxford?
Stupid moi?
Why not do it in Canterbury?

we're not actually planning on doing MitC; I just used it as an example of the kind of space we're after.

Oh - sorry - but that still leaves me puzzled. The altar where Thomas was attacked isn't underground or in a vault - at least, it wasn't last time I was there.
I seem to remember it being a step or three down from the present nave, but not a vault.
