This publishing business

Apparently, nowadays, a writer also needs to be a marketing director or something like that. And there aren't very many agents taking people on, so they have to do that job too. Not sure where I stand in all of that. I'm not good at 'networking'. I hate the concept. I'm not one to kiss people's bottoms and I don't have time and energy to 'seduce ( Read more... )

Wouldn't it be great if when my body needs to rest I could send my 'spirit' into another body whose batteries are fully charged? OMG if I had a dollar for every time I thought this, I'd never have to pay for postage for snail mail submissions again. LOL ( ... )

Gah! I really freaking hate that social skills [read: a classiest narcissistic sense of entitlement possessed by attractive people] seem to be a prerequisite to absolutely everything now. I wonder if Mark Twain would be able to sober up long enough to network if he were alive today! It's just a way for the social elite to bar those who are actually competent from competing with them. I'd say it's a form of discrimination, but what would I call this particular "ism"?
