Steam Winter Sale 2015

You know, they're bragging about how the steam winter 2015 sale was so profitable and all that. But I have to wonder myself. The current estimates, which say "at least" $270 million was made in revenue during the sale, appear to be a bit lower than the winter sale from back in 2013 which topped $340 millionYeah, this year's sale isn't finalized yet ( Read more... )

As for me, the only time I ever even looked at Steam was when I'd get one of those "Hey, a game on your wishlist is on sale" emails. And 9 times out of 10, I'd check to see what the sale was like, see that whatever game in question was still above $10 or so even with the sale, and then I'd just close the client and forget about the whole thing again. Only if the game was $5 or less (with the emphasis on the "or less") and/or was a game that I'd really been waiting for, did I bother.

I also went through the discovery queue thing a few times on the days that I bothered to open the client at all, and I ended up adding another two or three games to my wishlist, but that was pretty much the full extent of my interaction with Steam through the whole winter sale. But yeah, most of the games I saw in the discovery queue was merely stupid bullshit that I'd never in a million years even remotely consider buying, like MMOs and shit (or even worse, Early Access MMOs). I definitely found a lot of use from that "Not Interested" button, that's ( ... )

Oh, and speaking of those imbecilic "joke" games (or, hell, more than a few non-joke games, for that matter), the reviews on Steam are nigh unto utterly, absolutely useless, because far, far, FAR too many of them are written by fucking morons who apparently (and, of course, mistakenly) believe themselves to be comedians. Reading Steam reviews is sometimes more braincell-murdering than reading goddamn Youtube comments, even ( ... )

(This was meant to be included as an edit to the previous comment, but because LiveJournal is shit with its shitty, arbitrary fucking character limit for comments, it's now its own comment.)

I mean, really, look at this game. It's a fucking Garfield racing game. About Garfield. The orange cat from the newspaper comics page and the cartoon and such. That Garfield. It's a simple (blatant) Mario Kart rip-off, but with Garfield instead of Mario. Harmless enough, one would think, right?

But now, look at the tags for this game. Look at the reviews for this game.

I don't even fucking care about Garfield all that much. I have absolutely zero interest in this particular Garfield racing game, except for the fact that it is inappropriately showing up in the search results for "psychological horror" games. I wouldn't have even known this game existed in the first place, if not for that. It doesn't even matter whether the game is actually great or terrible or whatever. I'll never know, because I'll never be buying and playing it for ( ... )
