busy-ness

So on top of all my other projects, I seem to have a complete draft of AGL 35. I got a windfall yesterday evening: the house to myself. T was working late, so I took advantage of the solitude to get some work done. First I played through a section of the game a couple of times -- once with pen and paper in hand to make notes, once just soaking it ( Read more... )

That's really great! I love having the house to myself to write. One gets a lot done then!

It's true. I enjoy having T around for the most part, but it isn't always so good for the concentration! ;)

I have been following your latest writing adventures even when I don't comment, and I'm glad to hear it's going so well for you these days!

I assure you it's a rare occurrence. I hardly ever have time or energy to write, and lately I've been dry as far as ideas go. Let's just hope I don't fudge up the ending to this story. I find I do that unintentionally.

I too love having Erik around, but sometimes he just doesn't know when to stop being a scooch [sp], like the other night I was typing and he kept tapping my arm. I told him I was going to impale him with the keyboard if he kept it up. Usually all I have to do is make a high pitch whining noise and he stops.

I Definitely get some of my best stuff done when I'm alone. And don't worry about AGL being too long- I, for one, will be sad to see it end.

Thanks. I'm not worried, though; just making note. I've known for quite a while that this would be a long story, not quickly told. It just still surprises me sometimes, just how much there is left.

It is good to hear that all the external pressures are still leaving you a sliver of time in which to work on your prose. I shall say to you what you have said to me: "The story will dictate its length. Some want to be longer than others." You know we must listen to the story as well as to the Muse. The instant we start writing to our less demanding critics or readers is the moment we become hacks. I believe you would rather write solely for yourself than to suffer that fate. In the stillness of the night, it is that internal critic with whom we must lie and if we have been untrue to that one, our sleep should be unsettled. Carry on, I am eager to see where you lead.

The distractions aren't all external; my little LJ research project *was* self-imposed, after all. :) Weirdly, I really enjoy doing stuff like that. All part of my love of research, I suppose.

I'm not worrying over the ever-expanding length of AGL, just noting it. I am basically telling a life story in some detail, and it takes a lot of words to do that justice (as you know, I'm sure, better than I!). But thank you for the reminder.

Ah, yes, "Do you have any books here?" It is a classic. I've not yet been asked that one but my reference professor warned us that we would get it. Along with "Do you work here?" -- asked with complete sincerity to the librarian, wearing a name tag, sitting behind the reference desk. The computer lab question amuses me the most I think. Thanks for sharing that.
