Now that I've seen the new Star Trek movie twice in three days...

I think it's safe to say that I liked it.

I first saw it with T on Sunday, who isn't really a Star Trek person but was sucked in by the trailers, and today I was with amybang, who is a bigger Trek fan than I am, and all three of us enjoyed it. As I said to both of them, if nothing else, it's so nice to have actually *good* new Star Trek content again,

And yeah, the alternate reality was about the perfect way to go about it. It lets them get away with a lot of things they'd not otherwise, and it's still so very trek.

I really agree. It's consistent with the way Trek has always handled time travel -- creating divergent realities -- and I think a fresh start is exactly what the franchise needed.
