One of the most impressive traits I have encountered in front-end staff in a large handful of high-end restaurants is a good memory for faces. That's pretty impressive, though in my mind would be the nagging concern that I had forever become known as "The Bag Lady".

Point. But one suitcase and one backpack? I was only away for a long weekend at the time. I suspect they don't often have customers arriving with baggage who aren't spending the night in one of their small number of rooms.

I'm very impressed! I can understand recognizing you, but remembering the luggage? How much did you have?
Last Friday night, when we went back to Renzino's trattoria by the train station in Vernio, and were discussing what to order, Renzino, the owner, told Daniela, "last time the signora had the tortelli with meat sauce." I think about three weeks had passed since we ate there before.
I said to our group at the time, Renzino must have a photographic memory. This kind of personalized service is certainly endearing.
