SUMMARY: Uther is still king. When Merlin is forced to reveal his magic duing a battle, he falls. Arthur is devastaded because he has lost his best and only friend.

THE END IS NOT FINAL
Arhur sees Merlin cast the spell, but that in iteslf is not why Arthur now wears the horrified look upon his face. In casting the spell Merlin has lost his footing
"Merlin!" Arthur screames his name but Merlin is already falling over the cliff. Arthur shoves his apponent aside and rushes to the edge of the cliff but there's nothing save the swirling mist so far below. All energy leaves Arhtur and he colapses, staring over the edge, the only thought running through his mind is Merlin, his Merlin is gon.
the next day they hold a memorial for the dead. Gaius places the reath for Merlin, Arthur wishes it was him placing those flowers for him.
The following day he rides out to the the clifftop, he needs to say goodbye properly. Arthur drops to his knees at the edge, his head bowed, remembering Merlin, how he seemed to always be there when Arhtur needed hm, how he always knew what to say or do to cheer him up. And then he thinks about all the things he will never have again, Merlins smile, his laugh, and most of all his friendship. Arthurs chest clenches and the tears flow, he sobs freely. The small bunch of wild daisies he picked, they were Merlins favourites, fall from his hand and disapear into the mist.
Not far away a figure stands watching the young prince. There are tears on his face as he whispers "Someday when the time is right, I will return to you my prince, my friend"
