coming back to the US from canada, i can never remember whether i clear customs at the egress airport, or when i land... so this morning i opted for caution and got up at 4am for my 7am flight out of calgary. 45 minutes in the customs line (and that's before you even reach security) convinced me the lack of sleep was a good choice ( Read more... )

travel, yay!

Wow. That's great. I hope you wrote her a customer care compliment card.

sadly, no - i wasn't carrying any on me, and the first class upgrade came just as i was boarding, and she wasn't wearing a nametag. i do try very hard to hand those out when i can; i wonder, if i sent an email to delta skymiles with the date & time & gate & flight number, whether they'd be able to track her down?

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. The e-mail would at least get to the shift manager for that particular time/airport.

Wait a minute...Calgary to Seattle, by way of Salt Lake City? That would be Delta for you. They will also fly you from Seattle to Idaho by way of SLC.

Welcome to unseasonably sunny Seattle!

yup. altho i'm not complaining, since i'm this close to reaching gold on delta, so it's nice to get the extra miles...

seattle is always sunny when i come here. i think the inclement weather is a myth made up to scare visitors away, otherwise we'd all want to live here!

You've found us out. :) That's what my mother says, too; it's even sunny when she comes in December.

Actually, we do get less rain than the east coast, just more rainy days.

well, it would help if i didn't have the definition backwards! i thought it meant a work uniform worn by someone who usually wears regular clothes, but it means exact opposite. learn something new every day...

Speaking of learning something every day, while I was looking up mufti
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mufti_(dress)
(I knew the definition, but references are easier to point to)

I mistyped the search on wikipedia and found this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUFI

"Medieval", "Unicode", and "Font". The entry might as well have been subtitled "how to get badger's attention...."

you haven't really flown first class until you've flown first class on a 747 or a 777. the 777s on continental have their own private cubicles with a seat that folds out into a bed, along with a desk and internet jack for your laptop. the 747 first class is freaky in that the seats are right at the nose of the plane.. the pilots are sitting above you on the top deck and the first class section tapers to a point- that would be the nose of the plane. :-)

there are only a few domestic flights that use 777s, mainly NY to LA or SF. it's quite an experience. if you look around the discount sites you can find first class tix for about 5 grand. i have never heard of 747s being used for domestic travel lately though..
