There's a beautiful description of that phenomenon (rocketing back down to human-ness) at the end of Circle of Friends, an Irish bestseller that became a mediocre movie with Minnie Driver and a movie-fantasy ending. In the book, they don't get back together...and in a comfortable way it's going to be fine.
