Spending the First Day of 2009 on Two Street

Jan 01, 2009 22:54

Despite the unfortunate bout of Killer Christmas Virus, I managed to rally enough to make it down to the Mummer's Parade for at least part of the day.

The cold, cold day.

We watched in barkley's living room, and it was AMAZING as usual. Our favorite was the Polish-American String Band and their sci-fi theme. Barkley has pictures up in her journal (captured via my camera on the TV screen).

Polish-American were awesome! I loved their giant Darth Vader head!

It was so much fun, despite the cold. I'm glad that there are fellow Mummers aficionados on my FList. (And I just posted to barkley's LJ about the parade.)

Happy New Year!

Thanks for sharing. It isn't New Years Day without catching the mummers live or on tv. We were down at the Wach Center yesterday for Disney on Ice. It was pretty empty over there, normally there is a ton of cops directing traffic in and out there.....I guess everyone was a few blocks away.

Heh. I didn't realize that you were a Philly gal, too. Awesome.

I'm actually surpised that you didn't run into any traffic, because they do the Fancy Brigades down there, don't they? At the old Spectrum, maybe?

You first posted about this last year, and I think it's so hilarious and sounds like a blast. I'm glad you got to make it this year!

It is usually really cold, but if you ever have a chance to make it down on New Year's Day, it's so much fun!

I feel like it's one of those hidden gems.

I love these pics and videos; thanks for sharing. Maybe someday I'll get to see the parade live and in person. Fun! In the meantime, keep posting!!!!

I, too, am dying of the plague (or at least that's what it feels like when the meds wear off) so you've got my sympathy. I hope you feel better soon.

I hope by now you are feeling better.

Your immense and amazing Box o' Fun is certainly helping improve my mood of late, and I am plotting ways to make S cook me up some shrimp and organic grits. They're blue! That's so cool.

Someday I should run a field trip for all y'all. If we bundle you up warm enough, I think you could take the Yankee weather.

Yes, I am feeling much better. It's kinda settled into my chest but it's not so unpleasant as when it was in my head ( ... )

very, very interesting. I didn't know something like that was around here! I should have, but I swear I live under a rock in the sticks.
glad you feel better.

You're in the NY tv market, right? I feel like otherwise, the Mummers are impossible to miss. They're everywhere!

It is an amazing party, though. If you ever want to drive for a couple hours and freeze your kiester off on New Year's Day, it's totally worth it! And my brother has an open-door policy. :)
