Finding a home? So important. Remember poor Ryan? I'm glad you've cleared that hurdle and you're happy with the outcome. That makes a huge difference. Oakland will be a different perspective, but cool to explore in its own way, and still in easy reach of your new fun and familiar spots.

I'll think good thoughts re: the job. I thought of you the other day when I was doing the ketchup with a former "Q Street" employee who is a former client...

Heh. What *can* you do with a B.A. in English?

We're in a fun and funky part of Oakland -- near the lake and an old movie theater and lots of shops and restaurants and things. I think it will be a good change, and we're still close enough to the Magical Land that we can visit often, which is good.

Now, if the job comes through I will finally be set!

Theoretically, one *should* be able to do anything with a solid foundation, flexibility, and some intellect. I know I was born in the wrong century, or maybe the 70s was the wrong decade for my world "debut," anyway, but I had the sort of teachers who were proponents of a classical education being the basis for all pursuits. It's not as if you don't learn what you need on the job regardless. Then again, I have history and international relations in the B.A. department before the law/public policy and it's tough going. What a world ( ... )

Yay, I'm so glad you found a place! It sounds great - the Land of Oakland is indeed magical in its own way as well.

You were practically in my neighborhood when you were in Mountain View! Well, like 15 min away, but a lot closer than now anyway. Should you find yourself heading down to the Peninsula again, it would be fun to chat in person some time.

It's good to hear some good news from you - you're well overdue. I'm still crossing my fingers about the job.

I didn't realize y'all were so close by! Next time we're in the area, we'll definitely have to arrange a meet-and-greet!

And if you get a chance, you should totally check out Caroline or Change while it's still there! It was wonderful.

So glad you've found somewhere that sounds so lovely. Oakland may not be so magical but is it not in the midle between maagical land and SF? This could be most convenient, yes?

As for having an In and Out burger, I am jealous. Very jealous.

Oh! I have the notification turned on when one of my friends uploads a new icon, so I saw you uploaded that icon and wondered why you didn't use it! You commented while I was reading the post.

Okay, so topologically challenged me had to look it up on google-maps, but it looks to me like Oakland is between Berkeley and San Francisco, so IMHO you are still in the magical land, just not in the center that is Berkeley.
And if everything else is looking good on that front, I'm glad you found a place that fits.
I admit, I was getting a little confused with all the moving plans and changing roomies you have going on these days in the magical land. But thanks to this post, I now finally have picked the puzzle apart enough again to clear the confusion about who is living with whom and will do so in the near future and that no one is left behind.
Coming back to the plus-side of the Oakland location again - hey, it's nearer to SF than Berkeley, so the way will be shorter, if when you wanna party with us this June. :)))

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the job.
Hope everything gets sorted out soon and you get the job you want, so you can finally get really settled.

I can't wait for June!

I also can't wait for the job thing to be settled once and for all.

And yes, Oakland is between Berkeley and San Francisco, so it's pretty handy.
