I do all this. Repeatedly. I also create my own art. That doesn't mean I can't or shouldn't form opinions about the pop culture that washes over me.

i really do love you a lot. and it wasn't just your post, but i just don't understand what you want to acomplish by posting about hating bands you know your friends like. the band isn't going to hear it and and their managers and record execs aren't going to hear it. it just felt hurty to me.

See, it feels hurty to me when people talk about how these bands are doing me a favor or when they talk about punk rock as though queers don't exist in it -- as though these mainstream bands are queers' last hope in the punk scene while actually there are tons of queer artists who aren't getting attention because of real homophobia.
For months, I've seen people making arguments that I don't agree with and think are offensive: that straight boys will be our saviors, that it's somehow radical for boys to hug boys, that we should be grateful that people aren't us and acknowledge that they aren't us will speak for us. Why should I be grateful that someone's not homophobic? They're not supposed to be homophobic. I did at first try to ignore this, but it kept happening and I began to feel as though livejournal was a place where radical queer theory was not welcome or acknowledged, and therefore it was a space where I was not welcome or acknowledged
