Thinking about getting a Dreamwidth journal. Anyone reading this have one? If so, could you share some of your thoughts/experience?

I do. I use it mostly for my plurality stuff and this mostly for everything else. Dreamwidth offers some things that LJ doesn't, and I like it better on some things, though LJ has other advantages that mean that I'm 53-47 in favor of DW.

So, it's about the same in terms of usability, etc? Good to know.

Yes, it is. In some ways Dreamwidth improves on LJ-usability issues, though more from being knowledgable of potential fault-lines of the earlier issues. I would also note that yes, the Cross-posting is excellent but you will need an invite code to get in.

And as for LJ-damn thing freezes up and/or doesn't work too much for my liking right now....

I would note also that DW is more tolerant of controversial material than LJ is. They didn't allow a strikethrough nor did they censor a group that got booted off of LJ despite another attempt to try it there....

I got one to try, buuuuuut, regardless of whatever features it has, the livejournal community isn't migrating, so I couldn't get used to how...empty it felt. As irritating as lj is at times, I always laugh when people are like "FHDJKGHO OMG RAGE LET'S ALL MOVE TO IJ OR SOMETHING U GAIZ ): ):"

Yeah, I realize it's kinda empty right now, but on the other hand, I kind of gravitate towards smaller communities. It'll either grow or die, anyway.

I think the migration-rage is silly as well; although the slow creep of advertising on LJ has ruffled my feathers, I don't intend to stop using it (little as I might). I've heard Dreamwidth has excellent crossposting features.

I have one. I try to use it, but DW as a community is really empty compared to LJ, so I haven't updated it much.

I have an invite code kicking around so if you decide to get one let me know.

It's pretty cool, really. No ads are a big bonus. I like it and would be there exclusively if it weren't for a few of my friends being stubborn asses and whining that they can't have 50 RP ACCOUNTS OMFGZ!!!!!!1!
